Stepping Out of my Comfort Zone

Written on September 17, 2024

On September 14, 2024, I woke up bright and early for my first ISM meetup. Originally, I was frightened to make an appearance at the meetup for many reasons. I was afraid of being judged, not knowing anyone there, and afraid that I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.

During the event, a panel of 2 attorneys spoke in front of me and around 30 other ISM students. The new information I learned from the professionals made me glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone. Being at the meet up taught me a new type of law I was never familiar with, elder law. I was able to comprehend that elder law consists of estate planning and helping families with aging family members, or even special needs family members. Additionally, the students and I participated in student networking activities, as well as a moot court. I was nervous at first because I was the only student from Frisco High School at the meetup, so it made it difficult for me to spark conversations. Thankfully, some students from various high schools in the area introduced themselves to me. We were able to engage in conversations about our topics and extracurricular activities. Talking to these students made me realize that there are many students out there who have similar interests as me and similar goals.
